City Finder

Are you on the top of a mountain, looking around and wandering, what cities and towns are there around you? Or maybe you want to see how far you are from your home town, or which way your next travel destination is? Well, there’s now an app for that!

City Finder is an Android-App that shows you places which are around you. It comes with a database of almost 50 000 cities and towns from all around the world. You can choose how many places you want displayed (20, 50 or 100), and up to which distance (50 / 100 / 200 KM or 30 / 60 / 125 Miles ).
To use the app, simply hold up your phone and point its camera around you – you will see which city is in which direction, and how far, from where you’re standing.
You can also search for particular cities by using the search button.

And since it’s likely that you’re out in a remote area while using it (or maybe abroad), it works offline! The data comes bundled with the app so you don’t have to worry about data connectivity or roaming charges!

There’s and Ad-supported free version (City Finder Free) and an Ad-free paid version coming shortly (City Finder).
If you have any suggestions or feedback, I’ll be happy to read about it in the comments section below!

    • Sorry about that, I really didn’t have time in the last months to look after it. If you’re into android development and willing to have a go at it I could post the source to github.

  2. I’m a sw engineer, but have no android experience and not much free time either.

As I understand the stack overflow comment you just have to change the apps configuration. It seems like the copy protection does not work with some mobiles.

It would be great if you could try this.

    Greetings

    • Hi Kevin

Sorry about not replying earlier – I somehow missed your comment. I’ll try to do that, let me know if you can run the application.
It might be that it completely crashes on Android 4, I won’t have time to test it.
